CERT Incident Manager Redesigns New Hire On-Boarding Process to Create a “Safe and Secure” Environment

Makati City, Philippines - Ma. Crisena April Ebol was awarded her Certification as a Product and Development Innovator (CPDI) this August, on the last day of Design Sprint's 2-day Certification Workshop (Wave 7).

April is a CERT Incident Manager at Verizon, a global communications & technology leader known for its 4g & 5g wireless networks, broadband & fiber optics, and video & advertising platforms. After receiving her certification, April left a short testimonial for the graduating class, to inspire them to finish their own projects and earn their certification; We were also able to ask her a few questions so that we can share more with our readers:

Q. What Prompted you to start your project?
We need to design items on how we can efficiently onboard and welcome the new hires to their new environment.

Q. What was your project about?
The New Hire Onboarding Process. It's where we focus on designing the proper way of handling new hires like when we onboard flights, where the customer experience is to make them feel safe and secure in their new environment.

Q. What were the results of your project?
We were able to extract ideas and information from the group, especially from those who were not open to sharing ideas. Design Sprint helped create a way that people won’t hesitate to share their ideas since the group is taking notes instead of verbally sharing them.

Q. What was it like for you, starting up and executing your own project?
The challenge is to find the balance between process-oriented results versus the customer experience.

Q. Among/Aside from the Action Items that were done, what were the key elements that led to the success of your project?
Authenticity and Vulnerability. People wear masks that hinder us from being our true selves. Design Sprint was able to formulate a method based on psychology and behavioral approach wherein we unmask so we can share.

Q. What was the impact of your project on your company?
We are able to train people from different subgroups where they are also able to share the knowledge and execute on their respective teams.

Q. What was the impact of attending the Innovation workshop on you as an individual / professional?
Completing and achieving certification as proof of competency is a plus.
The knowledge shared is gold.
Learning is a never-ending process.
And the success of having a method to solve a design problem is talent.
It is my duty to find what people need to solve.

Q. What would be your message to those who are currently taking/planning to take the Innovation Program or those who are currently conducting their own projects?
Investing in yourself is a must. Because after which somebody will then invest in you. Getting certified is a way of selling yourself to investors willing to invest in someone valuable. You are on the right track for starting this path to greatness, keep it up!

Q. Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experience?
It is my pleasure that I have started my journey with Six Sigma PH in 2016 and my career has never been the same again. Always growing and always changing. I am happy to be a part of Six Sigma and would like to thank the people behind it for making a huge impact on people who are open to learning and succeeding.
